Diamond T Forge Story
Growing up in the cold winters of Montana, I didn’t have the luxury of modern entertainment like video games and laptops. Instead, my entertainment came from playing in my father’s workshop, surrounded by the smell of hot metal and the sound of hammering on the anvil. My father was a blacksmith and a master craftsman. From a young age, I’d watch him work, mesmerized by the way he coaxed glowing hot metal.
As I grew older, I spent countless hours building whatever came to mind using my father’s scrap iron pile. I’d create go-karts, minibikes, and you name it, using my imagination and creativity to bring my ideas to life. My father would encourage me, teaching me new skills and techniques, and letting me experiment with different designs. He instilled in me a deep respect for the craft and a passion for creating something from nothing.
After high school, I decided to see the world and serve my country. I joined the US Army and spent two incredible years stationed in Germany. The experience was eye-opening and challenging, but it also gave me a sense of discipline and purpose.
When my time in the active Army came to an end, I returned to the United States and joined the Army Reserves. I continued to serve my country while also pursuing my passion for blacksmithing.
I enrolled at Arizona State University, but as I delved deeper into my studies, I found myself drawn back to my true passion – blacksmithing. I started taking on small projects, setting up a makeshift forge, and experimenting with different techniques and designs.
My big break came when a small sculpture I consigned to a gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona was sold. Soon, I was supplying many of the top design galleries and interior designers in Scottsdale, Carefree, and Sedona with my handmade pieces
My degree took a backseat to my blacksmithing career, and it would take me 20 years to finally complete it. But I didn’t mind – I was living my dream, creating something with my own two hands, and developing my craft.
Eventually, I finished my degree, but by then, my blacksmithing career was already in full swing. I was getting commissions and requests from all over the state. I loved the freedom and creativity that came with being my boss, and I knew that I owed it all to my father, who taught me the value of hard work, creativity, and mastery of a craft in his workshop all those years ago.
